Many are saying that Idris Elba should have received a nomination this year. Maybe not Will Smith, but Idris should have defo received a nom

It's distracting nonsense. Black people, for instance, are more-or-less proportionally represented in terms of their Oscar wins over the past decade versus the population percentage.

Plus there are simply more white actors out there. Why? They're the great majority in the English speaking world, and they're an even larger majority amongst the people that can afford to go to a good acting school.

I'm also worried this ruckus at the Oscars is going to encourage tokenism. If a bunch if minorities suddenly win this year, we'll all be wondering whether it was really their performances that won them the awards.

Given the Conservative nature of Hollywood , that likely has more to do with the fact it was a netflix produced picture that had a tiny theatrical run.

It's far too simplistic to assume that the Oscars is the only organisation that is at fault. They should not have to nominate actors who are in mediocre films but happen to be black, especially when movies such as the Revenant and the Danish Girl are the competition.

White actors bring more money. Producers follow the market rule. If you don't like it, don't buy it.
Josb sums it up well. Producers will follow the money so if we really want to see more minorities in leading roles and in good movies, then we should spend our money accordingly.

Why would you expect to see white people on Japanese TV? Not a lot of white people speak Japanese anyways?? And their country isn't even close to being as mixed as America. You honestly make no sense.

The media is white. It's just a fact.White is above everyone and everything else. And if you're white get over yourself. We're not asking to run the world, we're simply asking to be included because the media is supposed to represent the real world. And shockingly black people, asians, native americans etc are in the world.

You probably wouldn't understand because when you look in the magazine you see someone with your skin colour or hair type etc.

But tbh you're entitled to your own stupid & wrong opinion. I'm done having arguments with people who don't educate themselves.

To win an Oscar all you need to do is make a movie set in WW2 that shows how Jews and only Jews suffered

This year there are no non white actors / actresses who have been nominated. Is this racism/discrimination or just coincidence?
I think a lot of people are saying the lack of minorities being nominated is a symptom of the fact the roles aren't made for minorities and if they are, they may still get given to white actors.

This summarises it quite nicely, particularly how people react to white actors playing minorities in comparison the occasional time a black actor is even considered for playing a typically white actor

IT'S OVER, MOVE ON, WHO CARES.

It's all a joke anyway! Every year films are made that deserve the "honor?" Please
