Experience is desirable and important for yourself, so you have an idea of what type of career you'll be stepping into. Also it strengthens your uni application and the chance of you getting interviews. Gather as much experience in care settings as you can if you want to be a nurse - just by that, it would show that you are committed and interested in the field.
