Chemistry periodic table

im stuck on two questions on my chem hw. i know the answer (sort oof) but idk how to put it in words.
describe how the elements in the modern periodic table are arranged:
i) in terms of protons. ii) in terms of electrons.
something like the groups are arranged by the number of electrons in their outer shell increasing across the table
and the proton number (nuclear charge) increases across the table?
Elements are arranged with increasing proton number across periods (an increased nuclear charge)
Elements are arranged in groups according to the number of electrons in their outermost energy shells which increases across the table
something like that
