Perhaps this would be better off in the English study help forum.

I think that George continues to just get by and spends money (like on things that were mentioned in the book) to deal with what he'd done and sticks with Slim, and doesn't do anything special.

Well, to answer the question- I actually think that George turns into a version of Lennie. In the book there are quotes along the lines of "Men go mad if they have nobody"/ "everybody needs somebody to talk to". I can't remember exactly how it went anymore. >.< But anyway, George needed Lennie just as much as Lennie needed George. I mean, did you not ask yourself why he didn't just leave Lennie and go to the cathouse? He totally could've and despite the fact he didn't appear as though he cared about Lennie some of the time, he totally did need the companionship. Throughout the entire novel, Steinbeck shows that everyone needs companionship and without it mankind cannot live nor function. Without Lennie, I believe George will become mentally disordered. He isn't like the other guys and therefore he won't try and adopt an attitude of superiority. He'll probably end up worse off than crooks bc crooks has adjusted, is semi-used to the situation that he's in and has his books to keep him company. George has nothing.

pretty sure even Candy figured it out eventually that after Lennie is gone, George would just be like any old ranch worker - blow his money on hookers, and that their dream of their own lil place is just a memory...
