Should I tick the 'mental health difficulty' box or will that hinder my chances? Watch

I'm applying to this Southampton summer school scheme(A2S scheme) and in the application form it asks 'do you have a disability?', to which 'mental health difficulty' is one of the options. I do have difficulties with mental health and it is what caused me to not do so well in my GCSEs (I didn't fail anything but could have done much better).

So what I want to know is will having them know that I have mental health difficulties hinder my chances of getting in or will it make them more sympathetic?

The A2S scheme basically aims to help those who are capable but have difficulties that stop them from reaching their potential.

    Thank you in advance.

You should be completely honest with them, Nadine.

I think you should be honest with them and tell them that you do have difficulties, as then they will be able to provide you with appropriate support

Tick it! The scheme is designed with situations like yours in mind so it's not a problem. It's not about making them "sympathetic", the fact of the matter is that you have these issues and they need to be aware of them so they can help you.
