Im 20 and have been living on independently for nearly 2 years. I cannot class myself as an independent student because it has not been 3 years. Im not estranged from my parents, but they certainly do not and never have assisted me financially.

I earn my own wages and pay my rent, whilst attending to college. How is it fair that my the amount my loan will be depends what my parents earn? This has nothing to do with my financial situation.

If you are 25 or older, you are automatically classed as an independent student - no matter who you live with, how long for or how much they earn. I am being discriminated against because of my age. I find this outrageous, yet I am completely powerless.

Do you have a fellow student who would consider a marriage of convenience?
