    Hi everyone,

Today my mum and I installed a cat flap into the garage door of our house. Our cat is a few years old, but she hasn't learned how to use a cat flap yet as we've never had one before. She will go through it if I hold the flap open for her, but she can't seem to figure out how to push it herself.

Do any of you have any methods or tips for how I can teach her to use it?

    Thanks!

Grab the cat and hold her firmly, then get your mum to stand on the other side of the cat flap and push your cat through - don't open it for her just press her nose against it. Your mum should catch her then turn her around and push her back through. Do this a few times and she'll get the hang of it.

that sounds so funny. lol. seriously you could put her food bowl just outside, or a treat? I'm sure she'll get the hang of it if you do that!

That's my plan at the moment. I will try sitting on the opposite side of the door to her with a treat, and try to entice her through

it just sounded funny. seriously if your cats let you do that to them (grab them by the neck, and escort them from the premises), you must have had much more obedient cats than me! lol

Unfortunately, I don't have a cat, so TeeEm would be your best bet.

A person owns a dog. A cat owns the person. The food one sounds the best- good luck!
