    pl5 if left in the open becomes a liquid ... but tht isnt pcl5 ... its phosphoric acid + Hcl ... highly corrosive acidic liquid

    it was used to test the presence of -OH group. In Edexcel syllabus PCl5 is used to test it, not PCl3.

    as i said ... leaving it out in the open for even a few seconds turns it into a strong acidic liquid ... it hydrolyses with water vapour like a ***** ... thts y its kept in very tight containers and in my school in a dark cupboard which has a air drying unit in it ... they keep all the deliquiscent stuff in it
