    It did not require an engineering degree specifically, but all my closest colleagues all have heavy hitting MEng/Msc/Phd degrees in 'hard' science subjects.

    Then it sounds like your employer made the right decision not using numerical tests as it would have been a complete waste of resource.

    I struggled a lot as well when I was preparing for mine, but I found Graduates First very helpful. You can do their tests for free on the website.
