    Hi
so on results day, say i exceed grades needed for firm choice, do i phone unis and just say 'im applying through adjustment, my grades are.., do you have a place for X course?.' or do i need to 'sweet talk' them and persuade them to give me a place?
    Thanks

You tell them your grades and they give you your place. There was not much in the way flirtation, sadly.

In most cases, they will just want to know your grades - they can pull up the rest of your application via UCAS. There's no need for sweet talk, unless they ask for it ("and why you do want to study at X uni?" etc.)

Even your grades are on UCAS. You just say which course you're interested in and your UCAS ID.

You need to be careful though. For adjustment universities can and will fish you out of adjustment based on a phone call. If you're calling to express and interest or explore your options but are 100% sure you want to switch to that university you need to make that very clear.

In clearing you add a university on track, the university then either accepts you and you're UF or they reject you and you're back in Clearing.

In adjustment you're UF with your original university, you hit the button on Track so your in adjustment and phone up universities. If a university wants to take you then THEY add YOU on their version of Track and you are UF with them....you don't give it the OK at any point via Track it's all managed by the university that is taking you out of adjustment.

Hi, can I ask a question?
If I don't get the grades for my firm choice but the grades for my insurance. Is there anyway I can go through clearing to get my firm choice?

If your firm choice want you then they will accept you - don't forget that they receive your grades the weekend before results day, so they have plenty of time to consider you and your grades. If they have rejected you, then they do not want you I'm afraid, and applying for the same course at the same uni via Clearing will be a waste of time.
