Let's assume Bill Gates has a net worth of $80billion = £57billion. Start on 1p this year and compound by two every year 'till the end, I'm currently 18 so am assuming the OP is as well. Just by age 70, one will have raised 2^51 pence = £22.5 x 10^12 (395 x more than Bill Gates now)...

Its an interesting idea, but every year just takes too long. It would be like 40 odd years before you had wealth even comparable to bill gates. In those 40 years I could have so much fun and do so much with that money, plus when you have that much money being able to earn more by waiting a few decades isn't that appealing.

Something like 500k now or 1p doubled for the next 30 years would be more difficult for me.

it is really, why would you want to be richest at the age where you need it least, i.e near the gates of heaven and wanting to be around family and friends then before its time to move on?
also dependent heavily on personal work ethic, you can continue to pursue your own journeys in life and make something of yourself, or become a drunk partying 20 something till the day you die

    Ah yes, Al Baik

But I also miss Mama Noura, Munch Bakery, the American burger joints like Johnny Rockets (there is less variety here) and having authentic Saudi food like Mathbi and Kabsah. The shopping too.

If I could move all of the restaurants over there to the UK I would be content forever :P

In like 45 years you would be far richer than bill gates, and then it would continue to increase from there.

Let's assume Bill Gates has a net worth of $80billion = £57million. Start on 1p this year and compound by two every year 'till the end, I'm currently 18 so am assuming the OP is as well. Just by age 70, one will have raised 2^51 pence = £22.5 x 10^12 (280 x more than Bill Gates now)... Unless there's an error in my calculations, I think you've just been torn a new one
What are you going to do with billions, let alone trillions at age 70?

I saw your other post and agree with you to an extent, but before retirement age you could easily raise enough to live a sufficiently happy and active life by working alone. Combined with your compound earnings, you'd be a safe multi-millionaire by age 50, which is more than enough, but as you get older and more inactive, you'll literally have a dream retirement after all your hard work in life and whatever you don't spend can be passed down to your children or given to charity/a good cause?

Thats the interesting thing with this question; it's basically differentiating those who'd prefer to have the reward first and ponder later, rather than those who'd prefer to work hard for your earnings first and then get rewarded. I'd certainly prefer the latter. Also bear in mind you'll already be a multi-millionaire by age 50, even if you've done jack-all up to then
