    It's in the style of Carol Ann Duffy #FirstTimer

    He regurgitates a degree,
    On an old book, by an old man,
    Well he is old, I guess.
    ‘Why do you think that’s the answer?’
    I don’t know, I don’t really care.
    I answer, I’m wrong.
    He answers, he’s right.
    He expects us to agree.
    I don’t, but I don’t move.
    She argues back.
    He narrows his eyes,
    Lesson one: Shut up. Sit down.
    Keep your tongue between your teeth,
    Never in your cheek,
    Less room to grind them.

    The grind of coffee and plastic topped desk,
    ‘Loose lips sink ships’ he tells us,
    Which ship? What year? Is this on the test;
    No, our last history exam was 2012. No need to learn it.
    Knowledge is the mark scheme;
    Genesis, Exodus, Edexcel, right?
    Wrong.
    He looks amused.
    He is amused.
    **** him.
    I think it, I don’t say it,
    It’s grounds for expulsion,
    And God Forbid -
    Basic survival was never on the specification.
