Is there a difference between Cannabis and Marijuana? Because there were some teenagers sitting in my front garden smoking it (could have been skunk, don't know if there's a difference between that and cannabis either. Isn't skunk like resin thing that's similar but not quite the same?) and gave me a lot of abuse when I asked them to leave. Called 101 about it and when I said they were smoking marijuana, the operator didn't quite know what I was talking about until I said cannabis. So is marijuana slightly different? Or is it like an American term for something? Because you hear it in films and on Cops all the time. Although in Road Wars they always say Cannabis. So it's it the same thing? Or is it like just a different type of it?

(should probably say, because I've been volunteering lately and working with some rather... sadly confused individuals. But it's so important to have good rapport with them, and I don't want to seem alienated)

I think C is the name of the whole plant and M is part of it ie dried flowers/buds. 😎

Cannabis is the "correct" name for the plant, the substance, the lot. Marijuana is from the Mexican term for it, and was adopted initially by the US government (as "marihuana") in an attempt to make it seem uncivilized and unappealing to the supposedly better American people. But it caught on over there even more because it sounded exotic.

Skunk is herbal cannabis which has been bred to contain a high concentration of THC, the actual drug compound that gets you high.

Herbal cannabis is just dried plants/buds.

Resin is the concentrated resin (supposedly) from the buds.

No, it is the bud. Which is why it is commonly referred to as bud.
