Over the next month will be taking on our first two members of staff..

Both part time to fill gaps that me and my wife are struggling to do.

Actually quite nervous about it. I have never managed people before... Anyone here manage people and feel like giving some advice?
Don't manage someone how you would liked to be managed, because they're not you. As I grew up I had such a good picture of how I'd like to be as a manager, but it backfired because of the personality that I was managing. I'd be explaining the bigger picture, laying out responsibilities and being really lenient hoping she'd be responsible and do things but the more lenient I was the more **** she became. She became really lazy because she knew I'd leave her to it, and when she'd **** up rather than being mad I'd explain the bigger picture again (that's ideally how I'd like to be managed because once I need to know what needs to be done I just do it, to the very best of my ability). She became lazy, left things last minute, her attitude became too relaxed and I felt like she was more detrimental than helpful.

Then I got to a point where I had established a really weird relationship with her, where I couldn't really become strict.. Otherwise I'd just be a prick, and certainly not me.

You need to set expectations early on, be mindful of rules etc, and then as they do more and more of what you expect them to, you can start being more lenient to them. Spend time with them early on, showing them how quickly you want things done, how you want them done, what an acceptable standard is etc. Set the expectation bar as high or as low as you want, and make sure that bar stays in one place for the entire time. It'll just become a thing where no one needs to explain why something has to be so good.

I'd make them understand the vision and mission and see the bigger picture because, apart from the money, they'll be coming to work for you and your wife so they need a good reason to do that. You'll be the face of their jobs for them and if they start feeling unhappy, they'll start looking elsewhere.

Also, have good incentives for them at times too, like birthday and Christmas gifts etc (obv in line with your budget) because going above and beyond is a really good touch.

Be formal initially (in a friendly way), set the expectations early on, make them adjust to it and then you can start being more lenient!!

Thoughts on a novel about 2 long lost brothers, one in the Arsenal academy and one in the Spurs academy who meet each other years later in the pros.

One of them will be face, do really well in school and equally well on the pitch, but the other will be heel and have a really bad attitude, basically football is his last chance and his only way out, but he she shows Messi-like quality, but it has to be nurtured out of him.

Sounds like you'd only sell about 13 copies (all to your mum).

On the note of sibling stories - have you see Warrior? That was a good film.

A spare time & money consuming electronic device with absolute no need tbh

Have a MacBook Pro already, absolutely no justification of me buying it is there 🤔

Series 6 and onwards are all on YouTube.

I watched Series 7 recently and the plots/stories are just ridiculous

Agree that tablets are a complete waste of money. Right up there with Beats headphones.

Depends on what kind of Beats tbf. If you get the Studio's then its pretty good value for money. Ticks the boxes you want from headphones, even if its on the expensive side.

    Sennheisers the best though.

Especially with the warranty they give you, you can send for replacements if they break.

Tbf, playing games such as Fruit Ninja on that big screen justifies the £400 price-tag, epic **** right there

Nah, love my iPad mini. Never really understood the point until I got one, but the only regret I have is I didn't get a bigger storage one now. Wouldn't buy the iPad pro or probs even the iPad, the portability factor of a 7 inch tablet makes it. Never really have to think about taking it with me, always fits in a bag or I can carry it with one hand.

SR is right in fairness. Beats are massively overpriced. If you're going from your phone's stock headphones that cost about 50p to manufacture straight to £200 Beats then they will obviously sound much better but for half the price they will get spanked by a decent pair of headphones from an actual audio brand.

That's from Head-Fi.org (an audiophile website).

Basically if you want bang for buck & sound quality get something else, if you want to get bumped and live in regret, get Beats.
