I got an offer from the uni in my hometown but I'm worried I'm going to miss out on making friends and the 'uni life' so as a compromise I was going to stay in halls for my first year. Will I be able to do this if I live in the town? And I put on my UCAS application that i would be living with parents.

Different unis and accommodations have different eligibility criteria. You'll have to check with your specific one. I know some halls don't let locals occupy a room, but I think most do. It depends on how much space they have really, it's accommodations with very limited space that usually have these rules.

There is a slight possibility you'll be able too. In most cases with universities, the spaces they have in halls are reserved for people who live a X amount of miles away. Ones that are usually an hour or two drive from the university - once that criteria has been searched this places are appointed, then they'll start to look at the local area. It's worth while talking to the university and seeing what they say and applying for the halls itself.
