Simple weird question but when you're handing in CVs how do you do it? Do you hand it in by itself or folded twice/thrice and in an envelope? What do you write on the front? Just '<name> CV' ?

    ......
Put it in an envelope and address it to the Manager, Shop Name. It's the best chance that you have of it not being binned/read by any of the shop staff.

Be aware though, it's just about the least effective way of trying to get a job, so don't make it the only thing you do.

What would be the more effective ways?

Ps. this wasn't a 'cold call' CV hand in, it requested a CV be handed in in-store

Tbh emailing the store your cv would be better.

If it was asked for, that's ideal, it's cold calling that is mostly wasted effort. The best way if you just want a local Saturday job is to go around the town looking for notices in windows and asking in shops if they have vacancies, make a list, then go home and write just a few, tailored CVs and covering letters, ust to those shops. Makes a much stronger application and shows initiative and planning/effort to the shop manager.
