Im an international student and I failed my first year uni study. Thus, I was withdrawn from the college and my visa has also been cancelled.

Before I got my result, I signed an contract with a student accommodation outside the college. I know that I'm supposed to find a replacement. However, recently I heard that student accommodation will release you from the contract for free if your visa has been cancelled. Is that true?

Btw, my contract has started for months.

It depends what the individual accommodation contract says

the way a lot of accomodation contracts are in the UK, unless u pulled out from the property within 2 weeks of moving in, then it would have to be mutual cancellation (but u would still be financially responsible for the property till new tennants have moved in)

Just for the sake of mentioning it: If they DO try any funny business with your cancellation (A lot of UK building management companies are extremely crooked) them trying to pursue fees overseas is EXTREMELY difficult. As for canceling on their terms it is entirely based on your individual contract.

But the thing is that I'm returning to London this summer. If the accommodation tried to sue me or something, I'd lose the opportunity to study( base on the crime record, visa application is gonna be rejected). I've been actively cooperate with them. But I really cannot find a replacement...

By the way, I was kinda defurad when I signed my contract. I booked my room through a third party website. It was showing £235 pw and after I signed my contract through email. The accommodation told me the actual price was £245. And my deposited was not gonna be refunded if I cancelled my contract at that time. I was kinda forced to say 'yes I agree with the new term'. F***

like someone else said - if you leave the country pursuing you for the rent is probably too expensive to be worth their time however if you're staying you probably need to find a way to pay
