I've applied and been given 5 conditional offers to study Psychology at Uni. My heart has been set on the local University, as it is only 45 minutes from home and I really feel I need to stay close to home - plus I love the city, and struggle to see myself elsewhere.
Unfortunately, the offer I received entails me getting ABB, and at the moment my AS grades are BCCC. I am 3 marks from a B on one, and have chosen to retake the coursework unit in the other in order to push them up to B grades - but I'm extremely worried about not getting in, as it's a top university and Psychology is a highly popular course so I doubt that they'll be able to accept anybody under ABB - and in order for me to reach the A I will need to gain around 110 marks /120.I've even looked at foundation degrees there (something I wouldn't normally be happy doing) but alas there's none in Psychology.

If anybody could offer any useful advice then that would be greatly appreciated, and please don't just say "You won't want to be near home once you're there" because my current circumstances require it to be in my favour to return home if needed and be close to my parents. I'd appreciate anything that can help, unfortunately there's no other Unis near me that can offer me a good course - aside from the one 3 hours away. Thank you

i m afraid unless they offer a foundation year all you can do is try your best to get the grades, do you know if that university accepts any resits? if so a gap year could be your best option if you dont get in first time.

Thanks for your response, although it's slightly disheartening to hear the truth I so feared . I've emailed the University and asked about the possibility of resits, I just really wished I could stay near to home.

Firstly, you might be surprised if you drop a grade or two. Depending on how other students do, you may still get a place. There are lots of psychology courses that ask for AAA, so although it might be a top uni, and psychology is popular, it may not be a popular choice at this particular uni. In the first instance, work as hard as you can for the rest of this year, and see what happens on results day. You might be surprised, especially if you get BBB.

If there's no other courses that would suit you right now, then if you don't get in, your only real option is a gap year, either with retakes or taking an additional qualification to improve your application. This doesn't have to be the end of the world, and during the year your circumstances might change so you feel comfortable going further afield.
