Maths Identities help

I've recently seen an identity for A Level Maths which is cos^2(x/2)= (1+cosx)/2??

How does this/ what's proof?
Well cos2x=2cos^2x-1 by rearranging to get cos^2x= then halving x values you reach the new identity
