A US backed rebel group has captured the Tanf Syria-Iraq border crossing from ISIS.
The crossing had been held by ISIS since May 2015, around the same time they took Palmyra.
There wasn't a rebel presence near the area, so it comes as a bit of a surprise. The rebels apparently crossed the Jordanian border and advanced to the crossing from there. Much of the region there is sparsely populated desert.
