You sure? It seems most of what modern day feminists campaign for are pretty pointless things (like Oxford's choice in an example sentence for 'rabid')

Well, that was an extreme example but most of the 'end slut shaming' and other sexual things are about women taking back ownership of their bodies. For a long time it has been okay for women to be sex objects as long as it was on men's terms - used in porn/modelling/prostitution. But a woman who is very sexual on her own terms is called a slut or a whore. Whereas men are called studs. And it might seem less 'noble' to some than campaigning for the vote, but women feel impacted by these things and so I think it's just as worth fighting for as anything else.

You can be protected equally by law (as we are in this country - not all countries yet) and still be discriminated against. More women than men are scared of walking out alone at night. We still don't have representation that matches our share of the population and brains in most fields of business, work and politics.

I mean I swear like a lotta women in porn and prostitution and modelling do it by choice and want to be there and if you force a woman into it then it's literally illegal so technically they're having "ownership of their own bodies" anyway but you know ooookkkkaaayyyyy

It should never be equally of results like you are suggesting but equality of opportunity.
Maybe to make women less afraid of walking down the street at night feminists should stop their lies about rape culture and also encourage them to find ways of protecting themselves rather than saying every suggestion is victim blaming.

have you seen geekfeminism wiki? it sums up everything that is wrong with feminism in a nutshell.

it might be satire, it's hard to tell these days though.

Yes I have. That, along with everydaysexism, genuinely triggers me.

I'm all for feminism, and women's equality, but I think this new wave takes things too far. It must be said though, that most feminists are decent and moderate, however, it's the ones (for obvious reasons) that take it too far who get the spotlight.

I'd also say to some women offended by threads like this, that a comment on neo-feminism is not a comment on women, most people who are disenfranchised with this form of feminism still hold women with the utmost respect.

Funny how people on TSR always pull up the extreme examples of feminism when denouncing our need for feminism at all, but refuse to look at the extremes of male behaviour (which would justify the extreme feminism if we're dealing in extremes).

In the real world we're dealing with everyday sexism and there's an everyday feminism to go with that. It's not all Tumblr people talking privilege. Modern feminists are still helping to fight for women to have the most basic of rights in certain countries/under certain regimes. They're working to make it more acceptable for boys to have an emotional side - boys don't cry, be a man, grow a pair - all these things affect the mental health of men and make women laughing stocks who shouldn't be taken seriously because they're emotional unlike the stoic men folk. We're in the midst of a mental health crisis and you can't deny that gender issues and what is expected of men and women often impacts mental wellbeing.

'It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so ****ing what' - Stephan Fry
