Sharp Pains - RSI?

I am a keen pianist. However recently when i play, i get sharp pains through all my fingers, in my wrist and down my forearm. Only on my right hand however. (The hand with the most playing)

Could i have RSI? or another injury? Its been getting worse recently and it has caused me to have to stop playing mid-piece.

Its only whilst playing the piano i experience this increasing pain!.

Thanks

it could be carpal tunnel syndrome. either way i'd go get it checked out, it can't be a good sign.

i've got rsi. shooting pains, hard to do oher activities. or it could be tendonitis. go check it out, because i got tendonitis (inflammation of tendons), through writing, using computer and working (at supermarket).

go and talk to your doctor.

I have had exactly what the op describes for 4 years. I am a violinist though, so the pain is in the left hand/arm. I had loads of physiotherapy & alexander technique to try & sort it out, but nothing worked, & they failed to pinpoint the exact problem. I still play but can only manage about 30 minutes a day.
go to the doctor, you should get referred to a specialist. also, talk to your piano teacher because the odds are, there might be a problem with your technique causing it. Be really careful not to overdo it- stop as soon as you feel the pain- i strained my arm and couldnt play for weeks, and i've never properly recovered.

good luck and don't let it discourage you, im so glad i didn't quit, now that i look back. sorry if my story is pessimistic, im sure you will fare better than i did  x

Yeah - i can only manage roughly 15 mins at a time and when I play certain pieces, I get a few bars in and my hands sieze up. I must admit I may have been overdoing it, but I had a break from playing for several weeks because of this issue, though it didnt seem to make much difference. Its not going to stop me playing, but Im going to get it seen to.

May I ask what the alexander technique is?

Thanks

it's kind of hard to describe... like a sort of movement therapy to help you play with less tension. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Technique <-this should describe it better. it didnt really help me tbh, physiotherapy was more effective. x
