King's has 'Roar' - a magazine published every quarter. Before this year it was a fortnightly newspaper with quite a high profile but it seems to have virtually disappeared.

Other options are the London Student newspaper which covers the whole University of London and is published frequently, with contributors from KCL, UCL, LSE, Imperial, etc. The editor next year is a KCL student and King's probably contributes more than any other college.

There are also subject-specific publications, such as King's Bench which is the official School of Law magazine and invites contributions from all students.

Also, being in London, there are great opportunities for work experience. Around the Waterloo campus are the offices of many magazines such as Hello, NME, Now... and they take students on weekly placements.

^ Wow, that sounds awesome. Thanks.

I'd love to work on the London Student newspaper, and having weekly placements at high profile magazines would be highly beneficial experience. That's definitely one of the +s of uni in London.
roar is pretty gash and comes out a mere 3 times per academic year

king's bench is a design nightmare and lawyer centric, but given the lack of press from roar it's a welcome addition nonetheless.

london student might as well be called ucl student.

Thanks for all that info...sounds a bit chaotic atm lol.

I didn't realise there were those magazines' offices around Waterloo campus (where I'll be!) & Perfect for me, a budding journalist!

Maybe someting new or old but re-developed mite start up in Sept when I get there...hopefully! *finger's X'd*

thanks anyway

Whilst Roar has gone down hill... since it changed to glossy it makes a lot of money in terms of sponsors and advertisers.

Disapointing that they've sold out. I liked the grubby version.

Oi, I like Roar. I always read it.
Does anyone know how much time people spend on making the magazine/s?
There was a literary magazine called 'HARP' which brought out a few issues in 1971 - edited by me and John Chell - we used to sell this in College & King's College Hall Denmark Hill - happy days - it cost 5p a shot I think ! It seemed to be a good idea to give page space to original poems & stories - esp to those of us who were being paid (yes, grants or partially so at the time!!) to study 'all of Eng.Lit' as we were for B.A. (Hons) in the subject, to put effort into the outer limits of poetry WRITING too!
I'm still endeavouring to write poems etc age 63 (years are relative/....) -
Wish I'd kept the @Harp' back nos. (they were roneo copied)

Love & peace - good luck in your own writing -
