can white spirit ingestion cause a heart attack? Watch

    a 29 year old woman in my local paper suffered a fatal heart attack after apparently drinking white spirit, can it actually cause one and if so how?

    Hi, if it's methylene chloride that was ingested (similar to white spirit, it's also used as a paint stripper/thinner then it can be metabolized to carbon monoxide in the bloodstream. The carbon monoxide has an effect on the blood's oxygen-carrying hemoglobin which deprives the heart of sufficient oxygen. For this reason, people with heart problems and particularly heavy smokers are especially at risk when using methylene chloride paint strippers.
