I love Bob Marley, Joe Strummer and John Lennon but I can sum up all they said in one sentence: "Don't trust the government and love each other". Good advice but essentially on a par with "I believe the children are our future".

Let's be fair, they're hardly the most lyrical musicians are they?

Try System of a Down for just a ****ing taste of actual lyrics.

    And Shad.

    Aesop Rock.

I don't want to get anymore esoteric than that...

If I was looking for profound lyrics I don't think SOAD would cut it. As I dont' know the others I will assume you are right

I found aerials really appropriate to quite an esoteric conversation I was having recently.

Granted songs like the prison song are hardly profound lmao. Or violent pornography xD

Still better than bob Marley or Lennon though...

But yeah, in general people big up their bestie musicians way too much.

You should really check out the other two though! Very good hip-hop artists.

OP is quite right... so many people think that Pop Musicians and Comedians have a direct line to the Wisdom of the Universe.

her is a recent pearl from Ms Adkins:

I like it in the city when the air is so thick and opaque
I love to see everybody in short skirts, shorts and shades
I like it in the city when two worlds collide
You get the people and the government
    Everybody taking different sides

Shows that we ain't gonna stand ****
    Shows that we are united
Shows that we ain't gonna take it
Shows that we ain't gonna stand ****
    Shows that we are united

    thanks for that Addle.

Well if you're going to think of anyone as a philosopher, don't think of John Lennon, he was a wife beating, child abandoning hypocrite.

Well if you're going to think of anyone as a heliosphere, don't think of John Lennon, he was a wife beating, child abandoning hypocrite.
I still think he was brilliant, I just don't need to make an idol of him because he had a guitar.

This is the problem with idolising people, they are human and inconsistent, we all are. He may have been a scum bag but the truth doesn't change with the mouth that speaks it though.
