I'd just like basic information, for example, what I would need to do after my degree or if there's anything I should be doing during my degree. Any help, tips etc would be greatly appreciated. I'm approaching the end of the first year of my English degree. Any and all potential tests/exams also, please.
    Thanks!

There's no such thing as a primary school English teacher. Primary teachers teach all subjects.

Get some experience volunteering / observing in both primary and secondary schools to see what age or subject you want to teach.

You need this experience to apply for teacher training courses after graduation.

There are a few universities that offer Primary PGCE with English, which would basically amount to focusing a bit more on the Literacy/Grammar stuff, but that's about it. The DoE and government really don't care about the English speciality, in fact at Primary level unless you are a maths specialist they don't care at all.

I will be a Primary teacher with a MA Hons in English Language, it makes no more difference than if I had a degree in History or Russian Studies!

If you want to go into primary school teaching, you have to complete the skills tests, which are basically timed numeracy and literacy tests done on the computer. I am currently training to be a teacher and I'm on a course that includes a specialism in art at Newman University in Birmingham. When you talk about being an english primary school teacher, do you mean a primary teacher who specialises in english or that you want to only teach english?
