Even single specsavers store will be different because they are all franchises.

I worked at a specsavers as an optical assistant for 2 1/2 years from age 16. I was on £30 a day for 8:45 to 5:15 with an hour of breaks. When I turned 18, I was put onto minimum wage. In terms of training, for the average part timer, it's just random in store training. It's unlikely they would train someone up to a qualified optical assistant or Dispensing optician (requires full time splits between "college" and working. I would say that £7.50 seems really unlikely. Though it is up to the directors of the store. I don't think the full timers who had been there for years were on £7.50... the pay really was pitiful.

The work itself is fairly boring. When I was there it was mainly receptionist duties, filing patient records, telephone etc. When I had more experiance I was trained in helping with the selection and dispensing single vision glasses. You basically fill in a form for the dispensing side. The new techology means theres less filing though!
^^hmm, that doesnt sound so great. i cant remember where i found out those figures for the pay so i prob got confused with something else. thanks for the reply anyway
