Depends on what you want it to do, how many visitors you expect, if you need it to be designed or if you have art ready....

Well, it really depends on your requirements. If you don't need it bespoke you can just use a free service to build your own. They're getting better these days.
If on a low budget and the website doesn't need to be heavily maintained, then perhaps ask a fellow student. Many are happy to have a real project to add to their portfolio. They'd probably do it for free, if not a few hundred pounds.

If you need the website to be robust and expecting to handle a lot of traffic, such as e-commerce or community based, then perhaps its better to ask a professional to do this for you. It'll be more maintainable in the long run, stand out against competition (regarding SEO) and more reliable under heavy traffic or delicate jobs such as handling payments. You'll probably have to pay a few thousand here.

Depends on so many factors. Don't forget, you'll probably want to employ someone to supervise the SEO after it's live. You have bandwidth costs, domain registrations, marketing budgets... if you have a relationship with customers, then you will also want to use a support provider's services too for live chat support and such like.

It's not just a one off payment, and depends on the kind of site and audience you're going for.

    Basically, what NX172 said.

Anything from a couple of hundred for a student or recent grad to whip up a site for you. Or, when you start getting into the "heavier duty" stuff, a few thousand, plus up to a thousand a year after that to keep it going.

I had a website done a couple of years ago from a student I found online when posting an ad, costed £300, and he's happy to help out with any minor changes (e.g. change telephone number, change image) for free .
Do you agree with the PM's proposal to cut tuition fees for some courses?
