Do we need to learn the procedure from gram staining? I can't find it on the sylabbus anywhere but then I have loads of notes on the exact procedure for it????

I do OCR and we have to know it for Microbiology. Not sure on other sylabbuses, but it's not too hard to remember.

Heat fix smear
Add Crystal Violet
Add iodine to fix stain
Decolourise with Alcohol

Gram Positive will appear Purple

Counterstain with Safrinin

Gram Negative will now appear red.

Fun huh!

its not written on the syllabus for aqa so i dunno- its in that book tho- i havdnt got any notes on it so im not looking it up

Yeah it definatly isnt on the syllabus - wonder why i have all the notes...ah well no time to learn it really anyway my head is too full lol.
