Met a girl today within the friendship group at uni. We've seen each other before and have each other on FB (from ages ago) but we never talked until now. At one point our conversation got a bit personal, about past relationships or current relationships. Issue is I've never had a girlfriend before so it was a bit awkward for me because I couldn't give any input.

Everyone including the girl was telling me how I should try to take risks and ask a girl out without fearing rejection and it kind of got to me. They said I should really start to date some girls before it's too late. Anyway, I quite like this girl now, I guess we share similar interests but I feel the way the conversation went today, it would be weird if I asked her out.

I did get her number but I don't know what to say to her. I am terrible with girls and I do want to try chat to her and eventually ask her out. So what can I say to get things going? How can I keep the conversation flowing? Is it weird if I asked her out considering how she was telling me to date girls, even though she wasn't referring to herself?
