    I'm having trouble understanding the Nth term and how it works..

    Could someone please explain?

    It is just the general term of a sequence. By which I mean you can substitute any of the numbers 1,2,3, ... for n and get that term. It's actually a lot more simple than it may seem at first.

    I understand that the sequence goes up a certain amount every time, but I don't understand the rest

    The formula is the difference + (the first term - the difference)

    11,15,19,23

    The difference is 4 so its 4n + (11-4) so 4n + 7

    4x1 + 7 = 11 / 4x2 + 7 =15 / 4x3 + 7 = 19 etc..

    (That only works for linear sequences)

    The sequences that you cover at GCSE are called 'arithmetic', and they change by the same amount each time. The nth term of a sequence like this is usually written as a + (n-1)d, where "a" represents the first term, and "d" the amount by which the terms change each time. So for example, in the sequence 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, ... the first term "a" is 2, and the amount by which the terms change "d" is also 2. So the nth term is 2 + 2(n-1) = 2n (when you expand the brackets and simplify). It also works when the terms are decreasing. For example in 1, -3, - 7, -11, -15 ... the first term a = 1 and the difference between the terms is -4 (because they are decreasing). Putting these into the formula gives the nth term as 1 - 4(n-1) = 5 - 4n.
