I would like to know you only get working out marks for specific methods, for example my dad is a mathematician and is going through my revision with me but he is showing me methods that he works with rather than methods taught in school. Does it matter which way I work in the exam? Do I get full marks if an answer is correct even if I haven't shown my workings? The mark schemes for past papers break questions down into working out marks and answer marks so will I only get the answer marks not full marks?

It doesn't matter what method you use as long as you get the correct answer.
However, certain questions even if you get the answer wrong, as long as you do some working you will still gain some marks.
For certain questions you have to have the working out to get full marks.

Aye. Always show your working. in some questions you can't get full marks without showing the correct method and in others you can still get working marks even if you get the final answer wrong.

If this is true, you're just cheating yourself. If not, please grow up.
