From what people have told me, I should be using fancy HB pencils and stuff to do drawings but I just use those cheap plastic mechanical pencils... is this unprofessional?

There's nothing wrong with using mechanical pencils, I use them myself because I don't have to sharpen and can get sharp, thin lines easy.

You can get the same quality of shading with both types of pencils.

The only difference is that darker shades like 5B are typically easier and cheaper to get a hold of compared to a mechanical pencil.

The proportions in that drawing are... you need to work on them :P
