I'm set to begin an Advertising and Marketing course this September, however my favourite university (Lancaster) does not have a placement year in the course, and I am seriously considering going to a university I like a lot less - solely due to the fact that there is no year in industry offered.

What I would like to know is just how important a year in industry is? I know that it is a huge bonus when applying for graduate jobs, but are summer placements considered to be a worthy alternative?

I am incredibly anxious about finding a job when I graduate. Would I still be able to find work without a placement year? Would I be able to find adequate work with a summer placement?

    Please help!

    Yes.

Go to the course/uni you prefer.

    Hello hello,

I currently study marketing, and i'm on my placement year. Although i'm a big advocate for placement years, I don't think its worth you sacrificing your 1st choice uni for it. As long as you do well in your studies, get some part time marketing experience while your at uni, and do a/some summer internships, I dont think your really missing out, and should have no problem getting jobs. I know a lot of people who dont even enjoy their year in industry too.

I would go to the uni you want to and just stay career focused
