THE has released a ranking today of the top 200 universities in Europe.

The UK dominates the list with 46 universities - that's nearly 25%.

Four out of the top five are UK universities, with a total of seven institutions in the top ten.

Germany, Sweden and Switzerland take the other three places.

Germany is the second most represented country in the top 200, and Scandinavian countries also perform well.

    Here's the top 20:
    1 University of Oxford, UK
    2 University of Cambridge, UK
    3 Imperial College London, UK
4 ETH Zurich – Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, Switzerland
5 University College London (UCL), UK
6 London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), UK
    7 University of Edinburgh, UK
    8 King’s College London, UK
    9 Karolinska Institute, Sweden

The THE seem to release a new "version" of their rankings every fortnight.
    Best 200 in Europe
Top 25 universities over 400 years old
    150 Under 50
top universities for attracting industry funding
Top 15 universities in the Arab world
    https://www.timeshighereducation.com/policy/rankings
It's pretty embarrassing to watch (and to watch university managers get sucked in to pay for "insights" and advertising around it)

Once again another example to prove that international rankings are pretty meaningless, because they rarely ever correspond to national rankings.

Stick to national rankings, if you dont want to be misled.

I would trust more international rankings than national rankings that take things like "student satisfaction" into account.

You could totally start pumping out rankings based on the uni-match reviews (although there do seem to be a lot of nonsense reviews in there that are 1 star with no comments)

The settling in score might be worth a closer look given http://www.youthsight.com/he-researc...or-the-future/

    Seems rather an empty argument.

International rankings do not correspond with national rankings, therefore they are wrong.

Look instead to national rankings, which are right because they do correspond with national rankings.

Or the national rankings are meaningless because they 'rarely ever correspond' to international rankings?

I forgot to add the only factors you should look at on national rankings are entry standards & research score. All the other metrics are worthless because they're too easy to manipulate.

The entry requirements for institutions is not indicative of the quality of the course...Research score? Seriously? Research is completely irrelevant for undergrads and the majority of taught postgrads...

The NSS isn't easy to manipulate
    Spend/student isn't easy to manipulate
Staff student ratio isn't easy to manipulate
Completion score isn't easy to manipulate
The DLHE survey isn't easy to manipulate

The metric that is easiest for a university to manipulate is entry score.
