Sunburn

Ok, so I thought it would be a great idea to go chill in the park in the sun, as I don't usually burn and it was only half an hour etc etc but basically my lily-white skin was not ready for the scorching sun we've had today and I've now got nasty bright red arms and decolletage. I look like Professor Zoidberg from Futurama. Anyone got any tips etc on pain relief, itching relief, redness relief (going to a party tonight - typical!) and anything else that will help? Am a skint (and sunburned and stupid) student, so any cheap tips would be very welcome! And I'll slap on the SPF next time. Thanks for reading, any tips would be greatly appreciated

Avoid this like the plague next time, although I guess you know that already. The damage from sunburn can show up years later.

Oh god I know, I'm worried about that too but it's like the first time in years, it's ridiculous because I'm usually so careful about it, but hopefully this one time won't cause too much damage. I don't even try to tan much, I prefer the 'pale and interesting' look, I'm terrified of ending up as one of those wrinkly old prune women who've spent her life sunbathing!

Try some aftersun, preferably some that contains aloe vera. If you keep it in the fridge it'll be cool for when you need to use it

Boots Soltan do a good one:

Alternatively their normal aftersun is just as good:

Thanks

99p is really cheap!
I'd agree with aftersun in the fridge. Cold showers (warm can be painful). If the sunburn is pretty bad I doubt the redness will lessen very much by tonight, maybe cover up or just hope it's dark. Cold flannels on the skin before you go to bed might help too.

Have you considered asking someone to take a run up and slap the affected areas? Although it sounds extreme and as though it would hurt, it really doesn't, its more soothing than a bath full of milk.

You're kidding, surely? :mute:

No bloody way! The chair I'm sitting on hurts my back if I put any pressure on it or lean back. Are you honestly saying it doesn't hurt? *is worried about being gullible as always and ending up with even worse Zoidberg-skin*

Ah damnit, yeah i'm joking, thought i was actually going to get someone to fall for that then....
hahaha, 3232, that has made my day!

OP, aloe vera is great for sunburn. However bad the temptation is, do NOT itch your skin because it will drive you mad for hours! Just keep moisturising it (aftersun, aloe vera or normal moisturiser) and keep it covered when you're out, even at night, because the wind will make it worse.

Hope you feel better soon.

OMG I am so proud of myself :proud:
I am mates with a group of lads who think it's hysterical to see what tripe they can get me to believe. And I usually end up believing it. So I did myself proud there!

Although I very, very nearly believed you :>.<:

I know, the urge to itch is unbearable, but so far have managed not to! Currently slathering on the Nivea creme. I'm like a greasy red lobster. Nice

Don't mock the afflicted! I am sunburned and gullible; therefore extremely fragile. In fact they should have 'Potential Trigger' above my post.
This is reli gona sound stupid but put lemon juice on it!

I'm failing to understand how you "don't usually burn" if you have "lily-white skin"! I wouldn't describe myself as lily-white, but I am quite naturally pale and I always put on high SPF (20+) suncream when I know I'm going to be exposed to the sun for a long time. I'm in Italy now and I put it on every day there's sun!
