How long can you keep a prescription?

Hey,

I have just got a repeat prescription from the doctors and was woundering if anyone knows how long you can keep the piece of paper before going to the pharmacy to get the medicine? Its just i have exams at the moment and am not sure when ill be able to get the stuff!!
Will the prescription still be ok to get in a couple of weeks?!

depends on what treatment its for, but yeah if its not essential you get it now im sure you'll be able to use it in a couple of weeks.

If it's a repeat prescription you can get the medicine at any point before the date on the prescription by which the course should end. If there's no date on it I suppose you can get it any time. Although if you wait a year or something to get it they might have some objections! :smile:

yeah my mum left hers for a few weeks before getting the stuff because she just didnt get the chance, (and she kept forgetting) but there were no problems when she finaly did go get it

6 months, unless it's a controlled drug and then it's a month.
