Hi, for all the international applicants, the interview will be giving out up until this Friday. I rang them minutes ago and this is what I have been told.

They said everyone would know their decision by the end of the week.

What is the rough structure of the NHS? I only looked at some of the problems it's currently facing due to the growth of population etc. What else do we need to know about it?

Has anyone heard back from someone, who is supposed to be back in the admissions office today, about rescheduling their interview? I emailed them around 2 weeks ago and called them that same week and told me that the appropriate person would be back today. Not sure whether to call them in case they've forgotten about my email?

I called today to follow up from December and was told to repond on the portal as they have been inudated with emails. They are hoping to reply to people this week.

I just sent a chaser email and responded on the portal.

Oh right, see the issue with responding on the portal for me is that if they can't reschedule then I am happy to keep my original date and time so I don't want to respond as a "decline" now as I may end up "accepting" the interview date later on? Thank you for the reply

You would have to answer that question for yourself whether its worth buying but I think about it this way, I'm going to be paying £9000/year for med school + accommodation expenses + other living costs in London including transport etc. so I think it is worth spending another few quid on a book that may secure me a place.

Also there is information about the kind of medical research they're doing at Barts. I'm going to pick my area of interest in medicine and use it as one of the reason why I want to go Barts.

What is the rough structure of the NHS? I only looked at some of the problems it's currently facing due to the growth of population etc. What else do we need to know about it?
    NHs structure in a nutshell:

NHS England is the governing body (where secret. of health has major influence over) they regulate CCGs and GPs. CCGs which are clinical commissioning groups basically allocate funding to hospitals and clinics based on the services that they provide. Same goes for the GPs.

For example: a hospital that has a tertiary cardiothoracics unit attached to it (a specialist centre) will receive additional funding for this extra service that they're providing.
Also a GP that has a minor ops clinic will receive additional funding. But the GP practice / hospital will have to generate enough return to be able to offer this service in the first place.

Also they're penalised for breaching government targets e.g. 2 week wait cancer targets, 4 hour A+E waiting times etc.

Targets are set by the goverment (sec of state for health) and NHS England.

This is by no means exhaustive but gives you an idea of how the whole thing works.
