I think as long as you take some of the more core subjects as well as softer A levels in combination, it shouldn't be a problem in preventing you from going to a top university.
After all it also depends on the course, so OP's claim of Mickey mouse subjects is a bit invalid without a proper context to it.

The media industry is one of the largest in the world, it affects so many aspects of our lives that you'd never even imagine. It's incredibly complex and influential, it shapes society. I'm not sure if people who look down their noses at it realise the extent of this.

Just pointing out that Cambridge only requires two of your three A-Levels to be from the 'preferred subjects' - OP's second list.

Other Russel Group unis are probably more lenient, but it's probably best for you to have at least one preferred subject.

I only wish that we had access to this information before we picked our A-Level options; I found out two weeks in and changed Language to Lit, and had to catch up.

It's not Mickey Mouse in the sense that it's easy, like Art or Business; it's just not one of the 'traditional' subjects - the ones that were the original A-Level subjects.

G&P is still pretty decent though, at least more decent than something like Sociology. Lol.

Fair enough, I guess what they mean is it's not the pre-requisite for any university degrees.

Hello everyone this is a list of mickey mouse A-levels that you should not choose if you are considering going to a Russell group university:

    General Studies
    Critical Thinking
    Information Technology
    Sociology
    Media Studies
    Film Studies
    English Language
    Fine Art
    Textiles
    Travel and Tourism
    Drama and Theatre Studies
    Physical Education
    Health and Social Care
    Mathematical Studies
    Photography
    Government and Politics
    Communication and Culture
    Creative Writing
    Environmental Studies
    Business Studies
    Personal Finance
    Philosophy
    Music
    Catering
    Sport

Subjects that you should consider taking if you are trying to enter a top university:

    Mathematics
    Further Mathematics
    Physics
    Chemistry
    English Literature
    History
    Geography
    Modern Foreign Languages
    Economics
Well that's a load of ****, myself and plenty of others have been accepted into Russell Group universities with those subjects - mine being environmental studies as it is considered a science and if you actually tried to do half of these subjects you'd realise they are difficult and respected A levels lmao just going to assume you're joking
