For example in the new 9-1 Maths GCSE the GCSE is now double weighted? What does this mean?

Hey there, lovely! The new GCSE system is indeed very confusing, so it's fantastic that you've asked, always the best way to find out when you're unsure!

Under the new system, ''double weighting'' does not affect students. It only affects school league tables, so that doing well in ''academic'' subjects makes schools look better. Your grade won't be any different, you won't study for any less or more time, and the qualification won't be any more or less important than if it were ''single weighted''.

If you'd like to read a bit more about it, there's an article about the effect on schoolshere and the original government report here.

Best of luck with all your exams and option choices <3
