I'm currently in year 12 and many people are attending lectures at unis to give them insight for courses their interested in e.g medicine. This gives people more experience and shows interest in certain courses. However, I'm unable to find anything relevant to economics or engineering which I can attend.

For engineering http://www.etrust.org.uk/ is worth a look - they run a national network of summer school courses.

Other sites to research are the society for the subjects you're interested in. for example http://www.res.org.uk/view/newsevents.html for economics or the various engineering bodies listed here: https://www.engc.org.uk/about-us/our...-institutions/

Keep an eye on your local university events pages/social media. They often offer things that aren't publicised widely.

Finally look for talks on TED and itunes uni and youtube and programmes especially on radio 4 and bbc4 - there's a lot out there
