Terrible Pain in Shoulder and Right Arm

Hi Guys.

This is really starting to hurt now, and became more apparent whilst I was sleeping. My right shoulder and arm feel really cold, and it's a massive effort to move them.

When i do manage to move them, it really hurts, and it's where the joint appears to be - the top of the muscle/joint - that really hurts.

The reason I'm posting this sooo early, and not in bed, is because I can't sleep: It hurts whichever position i sleep in. I'm going to see the doctor today, but does anybody have any ideas in how I can neutralise the pain in the meantime?

I tried painkillers and stuf...

Many thanks,

Tom.

If it's going to hurt it will. Which pain killers did you take? Ibuprofen would probably be best as it's also an anti-inflamatory (sp?) which might help if there's anything causing the pain.

When my shoulder's crap because of the problems with it, I often wear a sling so that my arm isn't hanging heavily. If you haven't got a proper one you can use a jumper or one or two pillowcases.

I hope it gets better. :hugs:
Have you pulled a muscle or something buddy? been doing weights?
You may need to rub it up.

Many thanks for your responses!

I did take Ibuprofen, so hopefully the pain will ease!

I haven't done any exercise on it at all, no weights or anything, it started after a bad cold!

Thank for yoru support!
Must have just slept on it wrong perhaps?

S'alright.

You could have just slept on it funny but that would work itself out after a while...

Yeah, I thought so at first... but it's been like this for a few days now, I guess I wanted to leave it a day or two to see if it was a problem with the way I slept on in.

But because it's been painful for 4/5 days or so, it's bugging me to say the least!

Thanks for your responses: will try and ring the doctor in a bit!

That must be muscle pull.

I've got thesame problem right now, in my left shoulder. Mine's been hurting on and off for a few years though, physio hasn't helped. I agree with Ibuprofen, it seems the most effective against the pain, also, sleeping with your arm raised slightly rather than at your side seems to help a little.
I find it tends to go on its own after a while, but it still hurts like hell while it's there. Right in exam time, too.

As you've said your arm's cold it could easily be a trapped nerve, or some swelling that is lowering your blood circulation. If it still hurts take Ibruprofen for the swelling and paracetamol for the pain (make sure you eat something before you take them though!!!). Most likely it will work itself out, but if it gets any more painful, or your arm starts to tingle, go to either the Doctors or A&E (although A&E are pooh... I went because my hand had gone numb and slightly blue, but they just said "oh it's a trapped nerve" and pushed me back out the door... nothing to elevate that fact that I was scared I might loose the use of my hand!!)

It could be that you've trapped a nerve, ibuprofen would probably be a good painkiller. You should probably have physiotherapy too. These treatments should sort you out but if you don't start getting better you could need surgery.

Put on a warm-shooting cream. I don't know what they are called but they are usually used for sore muscules. There is one with aloe vera which is very very good. There is also tiger balm which sometimes works as well. But massage it into the places that hurts, before bed and enjoy. If it hurts a lot, then putting it on might hurt as well but it's going to be VERY VERY hot and somehow actually feel good.

I always put it on when my shoulders hurt and gosh, while it is a bit painful to feel as if the blood is boiling - it is WONDERFUL. Afterwards, when I wake up, things are just numb and relaxed.
Can you fully rotate your arm? (e.g. rotate your arm like a windmill)
if you can't you might have a frozen shoulder. Best thing to do is to start swimming regularly.

Hi guys.

Thanks for all your replies, it's really appreciated!

I went to see my doctor, he said i strained a muscle there and it's best to go to Physio and take painkillers.

Because of the hectic time, exams, he said try and go with the painkillers for a bit, and see how it goes...

And, success! It's getting a lot better now! Still hurts when sleeping, or lying down, but i'll cope!

Thanks for your support!
