    Hi guys,

I basically have an interview for an access course in social work which I'm very fond off but I have a few questions. The assessment involves a maths and English test and I'm very bad at maths yet I have a functional skills level 1 in maths and GCSE D in maths, If I fail the maths assessment do you think they will still accept me ? I also have a C in GCSE English so at least last reassuring. Thanks guys !

I don't know if the college would accept you. But the more important question is would a university accept you without a C grade GCSE in maths? I'm afraid the answer is probably not, and GCSE 'equivalents' are no longer accepted by universities either. Could you do a GCSE in maths alongside the Access course? Speak to your college.

I'm sure that they allow you to do English and Maths alongside the course and they let you retake both subjects if required. There will be a lot of people on the course who might not even have any GCSEs so they will do their best to accommodate you. The assessment shouldn't be too bad, it will be basic at least because your course wouldn't involve a lot of maths with social science. Doing the science course which would involve physics is a different story. Good luck
