Sounds to me like you have never experience true love. When you do, you realise there is one person you absolutely must have in your life to bring balance to it all.

Well before welfare land it was important to choose a partner that wouldn't beat you, could provide a stable income and look after your children. So dating was the best way to make sure of this.

    Dating?
So what the relationship/marriage would start off with loving the partner, but slowly end up with what?

Is that why some people end up having more than one relationship at the same time?
Is this really want to trust in a person?

Because companionship is natural and a human right, and "Dating" allows one to ascertain the right companion for affection, intimacy, or a long term relationship/marriage etc.
