I don't think they do! It's just a way of congratulating those who do extremely well! But i can't see a university asking someone as part of their conditions "obtain highest marks in the country in A2 Maths"!!

Is that like a top 5 award that was used in GCSE? I didn't even know they did one for A levels, which boards do it? Is it for your results after A2 or do they do it for As levels?

i m sure edexcel gives it because i know a friend of mine who got it..

its for the whole A level.... if you get like 599/600 or very high mark...

but i dont really know if any other board gives ...

my opinion is that universities consider it a lot because universities want to get the best of the best...

why get a student who got 3AAA and not a student who got 3AAA plus came first in one subject in his country..my opinion..

AQA has a Top Five scheme for GCSE and A Level exams. This does NOT mean that only five people get a letter per subject, it means those who get one of the top five marks will do. I don't know if the other exam boards offer anything. At A Level you'll be looking at a UMS somewhere in the region of 590+ out of 600 I'd say to get anything, although it depends on how people have done nationwide in that year.

But surely the only way to discover if a student has achieved this allocade would be to specific this as part of their conditional offer, and let's be honest, who University, Oxbridge included, would honesty require a student to achieve 596+/600? Isn't that the whole point of Advanced Extension Awards, which Oxbridge do use, to differentiate between borderline A grade candidates and those special gifted pupils?
They're not given for AS levels, only for full A-levels. Therefore a uni wouldn't know whether someone had got one or not until results day, when they'd already given them an offer or rejected them, unless they applied post A-level. But Cambridge ask for all your UMS marks when you apply anyway. I think how they work is that everyone who gets 600, 599, 598, 597 or 596 UMS marks out of 600 gets one, but it seems to be only AQA that do them for some reason. If you get a really high UMS mark at AS and apply to Cambridge, or get a really high UMS mark at A-level and apply afterwards, they might give you an advantage, but that's pretty much it.
The only effect it could have would be if you didn't apply to Uni until after your A2s. You'd probably be guarenteed an interview and offer for anywhere as a result.

well ... in my country you go 2 years to the army so...you get all your a level results before even applying so you the unis will know...

my opinion is that is a great advantage against canditates from your country..

P.S. army:eek:  ..
Do you know what this is?...

Is it important if you get one.. in your a levels..

High achievers award: you get the highest mark in your country to a specific subject...

Do unis care about it? :s-smilie: :s-smilie:
