    Aqueous SO32- can be oxidised by oxygen to SO42- shown in the following equation : SO32- + 0.5O2 ---> SO42-

    State the characteristic property of transition elements that enables them to act as catalysts in redox reactions and write the mechanisms for this reaction in the presences of acidified CO2+ catalyst.

    Transition metals can act as catalysts due to their ability to change oxidation state eg Fe2+, Fe3+
    And also often are able to absorb substances onto their surface (similar to the way a catalytic converter works)
    Hope this helps

    Could it be asking for the half equations? What exam board is this?

    This is the answer : Co2+ + H+ + 1/2O2 --> Co3+ + 1/2H2O
    1/2H2O + CO3+ + SO32- --> SO42- + CO2+ + H+
    It's OCR
