Asian means anywhere in Asia which, funnily enough, includes India and Pakistan.

    I assume you're not a geography student?

I'd agree with you but we have a culture of calling them "asian" for some reason and not indian (same applied to pakistanis seeing as pakistan used to be a part of india pre-war). in america, "asian" means east asian though. it's to do with which asians come where.

The UK has a larger population of immigrants from South East Asia whereas America has a relatively large population of Chinese/ Japanese Asians which means that the word Asian tends to have different connotations depending on the origin of the person using the word

don't think many indians like being called asian anymore. pakistanis have turned it into a dirty word. indians tried to use desi, but now pakistanis have leeched onto that as well.
