Hi guys I am going to have my interview in st marys for pgce secondary maths and i wanted to make sure i understood correctly the first bit of the interview which is the oral presentation. Is it a little talk explaining the maths curriculum during secondary and the importance of maths in secondary school? And could you please give me an example of the object I should provide as a hook of learning?

    Dear Domnif,

There are 4 activities that make up the morning of an interview day, one of which is a 3 minute presentation. During the presentation, applicants are expected to justify why the subject they have chosen to teach is part of the curriculum - some reference to the National Curriculum is expected. The staff observing are looking for clear evidence of preparation and for you to engage the audience. There is also an expectation that you will use your own imagination to bring in an 'artefact'/'hook for learning'/fascinator, something that will help engage your audience and 'link' in some way to your presentation.

Hope this helps but you could always direct further questions to [email protected].

    Good Luck!
