What is the importance of Homeostasis in maintaining the healthy functioning of the body?

Homeostasis refers to the maintenance of a constant internal environment within fairly narrow limits, despite external pressures.

This is important because, say, you walk into the Arctic, your external environment will place a huge stress on your body, as your internal body temperature will also decrease. Without homeostasis, enzymes will cease to function and physiological processes will also begin to cease.

Hence homeostasis is significant in that it allows our body to maintain this constant internal environment that is needed for cells to function efficiently.

By maintaining a homeostatic state in the body it's reactions and processes can occur at a normal level. They key concept with homeostasis is that it is regulation of a deviation from the normal state. If it's the kidney talk about the fact that I overcorrection is prevented by a negative feedback system etc
Homeostasis keeps four things stable: blood sugar level, water level, ion level, temperature. If any of these are too high/low it would have harmful effects.
