Assume the following scenario complies with the laws of physics and can be executed through some possible means, the derivation of which shall not be explored.
You are sat in a room on a special chair. This chair has restricted all forms of major movement by immobilising your head, legs, feet, arms, torso and hips. Apart from basic movement such as your tongue, eyeballs, mouth, etc, you can move your fingers. Why? Because in each hand is a button.
In the room on your left is your mother/father (you can choose the parent). They are strapped in the same chair.
In the room on your right is a young child no older than 3 (you can choose the sex), one you have never seen before, and you have had no possible prior connection with this child. He/she is also strapped in the same chair.
The rooms are separated by thick, reinforced glass so you can see the individuals.
The button you press will correspond to the appropriate room. Left button for left room, right button for right room.
When you press that button, carbon monoxide gas is pumped into the relevant room and will slowly kill the individual.
You can only press one button, and if you do, you and the individual that is alive are released from this nightmare and you can go back home.
If you fail to press a button within 5 minutes, an anonymous figure will shoot you and then he/she will activate a button at random.
Which button do you press?Spoiler:ShowOr do you not care and would leave it to a 50/50 chance...?
